Research and Resources

Most  studies addressing the correlation between implants and systemic complications have not examined causation in patients who are ill following implantation. Instead, asymptomatic implant recipients are examined.  Future long term studies need to focus on the symptomatic patients, so that physicians may properly diagnose systemic complications.

Two Small Voices

A great film that was done for Lifetime TV about the breast implant issue nearly 9 years ago.

Two distinctly different women. Two very separate struggles. One united fight.

Sybil Goldrich (Mary McDonnell, DONNIE DARKO, DANCES WITH WOLVES), a wealthy California mother was suddenly diagnosed with breast cancer. Kathleen Anneken (Gail O’Grady, AMERICAN DREAMS, NYPD BLUE), a middle class mom from Kansas was terribly unhappy with her breast size. Both consulted doctors. Both received silicone implants. And both became extremely ill. Together, they led a fierce battle to change the country.

After being ignored, mistreated and disregarded – Sybil and Kathleen formed a partnership that saw them through FDA hearings, congressional battles, and their own personal struggles. Sybil’s implants ruptured and Kathleen suffered from severe depression.

The enemy was Dow Corning. The impossible task was proving it. From speaking out to live audiences to appearing on national television – their cries were not enough. The incriminating information they needed was in one lawyer’s hands. But, could Sybil and Kathleen get him to fight hard enough to win the case? The answer was "yes."

Dow Corning was forced to file for bankruptcy. And the two small voices of Sybil Goldrich and Kathleen Anneken continued to make themselves heard. But they weren’t so small anymore.
